Description
Superintendent of Fulton County Schools, Jere A. Wells, requested that all personnel granted military leave during World War II correspond with his office throughout the duration of their service.
Edith Harber was a teacher at Evan P. Howell Elementary School, when she was granted leave for military service in August of 1942. She served in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps at Camp Crowder, Missouri. After the war, Harber returned to Atlanta, married, and started a career working for Rich's Department Store.
Evan P Howell Elementary School was one of the first schools in the Fulton County district; it was designated as a shelter during blackouts throughout the war.
